Corelia Project Ensemble
Friday 12 September 2025
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
2025 marks 150 years since the death of composer and pianist, Louise Farrenc. As the only female professor at the Paris Conservatoire during the nineteenth century, she determinedly fought for the same recognition as her male counterparts, and after several years of hard work she succeeded in her campaign for equal pay. Her writing for chamber ensemble is particularly refined, and this programme celebrates her sparkling Sextet, alongside compatriot Poulenc’s exuberant work for the same instruments. Together with a short interlude by Decruck, these pieces showcase the long tradition of stunning French wind repertoire.

The Corelia Project is an initiative that strives to normalise inclusion and diversity in classical music through the performance and promotion of works by women and all gender-marginalised composers. It seeks to address the huge gender imbalance that still exists in the programming of classical music.
The Corelia Project website hosts a searchable database of chamber music aimed at musicians who are looking to discover repertoire by women. Its purpose is to make this music as accessible as possible by reducing the time required to research under-represented composers.
